Floorball is an introduction to hockey through a safe, inclusive and fun-filled gym-based program. It is played indoors with specialized lightweight sticks and rules that make the game exciting and fast paced for all participants.
FLOORBALL: An Introduction to Hockey is a collection of 10 lesson plans designed to introduce students to the game of hockey. Each practice plan is broken down into three stages – Getting Ready, FUNdamentals, and Learn to Play – with a focus on fundamental skill development. Core skills include passing, stick handling, shooting, and game play.
With a choice of three timeframes (30, 45 or 60 minutes), a lesson may be applied as presented or used as a guideline by teachers and coaches. Each lesson plan is clearly illustrated, featuring Hockey Canada’s mascot, Puckster.
Floorball is a fast and exciting game that promotes end-to-end movement with quick transitions and fluid gameplay. The rules stress the importance of safety and sportsmanship.
Floorball is used in a variety of Hockey Canada’s development programs and teams as an off-ice training tool. The game of floorball is played in more than 50 countries around the globe and is governed by the International Floorball Federation.
